Valentino Trunk Show At Neiman Marcus

Dear Fashionistas,

Neiman Marcus on Michigan Avenue has a non-stop ramped-up calendar set up for this summer.  It includes a wide range of style events including trunk shows like the elegant haute couture designer Valentino I attended today.  I Enjoyed a sneak peek at what's to come for fall of Valentino's ultimate luxurious collection.
The intricate detail shows the extraordinary beauty and is truly captivating.  Especially when there are only two made in the world. I am referring to the jacket above which is all made by hand. The lace like ribbon is not ribbon at all but  a technique called needle punching.  It takes a steady hand and only a few in the world know how to use this technique.

The feather skirt is also made by hand but each feather is painted individually.  The color eggplant seems to be the new "black' this fall.  It is a nice rich dark color which Fashionistas in Chicago absolutely love and wear as their uniform of choice.  However, this color adds a bit of spunk and interest to our wardrobe and I look forward to seeing more of it.

When I think of Valentino, I think of red.  To me this is his signature color and couldn't leave without seeing a piece in this shade  The elegant red dress was a classic piece with a ruffle neckline to add an extra feminine touch.

The Valentino trunk show continues tomorrow.  If you haven't experienced haute couture, be sure to discover the elegance of Valentino.

Nicki

Five Star Frocks For Chicago's Warm Months

Dear Fashionistas,
Don't you just love a good dress to wear throughout the warm months? Lets face it, Chicago only has three good months of warm weather to really enjoy light flowing materials.  So I gathered a few of my favorites that can be worn strolling along the shopping districts, grabbing lunch with friends or meeting for a cocktail at Trump Tower.   The best part - is that they are all reasonably priced and located in Chicago.

1. Marlowe - 800 North Michigan Avenue.  This wool silk pleated dress is stunning.  It is the epitome of elegance and will get you through luncheons to cocktails for many years to come.

2. Cerato - 3451 North Southport Avenue. This Vienna dress by Chicago designer Sophia Reyes is stunning with it's vibrant color and designed with perfect proportion's.  This dress is a must-have to show off your flirty femininity side.

3. Zara - Block 37-1 West Randolph.  Leather is the "it" textile this S/S2011 and Zara is making it accessible and fun with this little ruffle leather number. Make this a Chicago streetstyle by pairing it with your black patent leather lace-up heels and skinny belt.

4. Neiman Marcus - 737 North Michigan Avenue.  T-Bags is one of the stylish designers at Neiman Marcus that is "yes" affordable.  The striped halter maxi is designed with all shapes in mind.  A banded empire waist and gathered bodice makes this dress wearable for both day and night.

Which one will you wear this summer?

Fashion in Chicago

I have fond memories as a little girl visiting Chicago while growing up in Peoria.
My family took trips to Chicago to enhance our culture and enjoy a museum, a play, dinner and shopping. I remember we were never allowed to wear jeans to do any of these activities especially while shopping on Michigan Avenue or while fine dining. We were always dressed smartly. (which led me to the love of fashion)

When I looked into the window displays at Marshall Fields, I Magnin, Neiman Marcus, Gucci, Henri Bendel and Saks Fifth Avenue I would get a fuzzy feeling inside and I knew Chicago was where I wanted to live someday but most importantly; fashion was for me!

Chicago is the ultimate city to be a fashionista. Below are 3 reasons why:

First, we have four seasons we must dress appropriately for: you know, a new cashmere coat is a must in the winter, a new fuchsia trench for the spring, new gladiators for the summer and 3.1 Phillip Lim must have ruffle blouses for the fall.

Second , Chicago has a wide range of boutiques and department stores to do your shopping with local prestigious designers such as Maria Pinto www.mariapinto.com
and Abigail Glaum-Lathbury www.abigail-glaum-lathbury
many of the up and coming local designers are featured in boutiques in the Chicago neighborhoods such as Lincoln Park, Bucktown and Wicker Park. These are a must to shop.

The third and last reason (there are more reasons but this is the top 3) is the wide range of styles available. There is certainly a style to fit your hunger of trend, class and budget.

Chicago is definitely my kind of town......to shop:)
